2023 FinnFunn Weekend
THE TORI IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS
The Tori is fully stocked with all your favorite items including: CDs, birch bark stars (3 sizes), Finnish coffee, lingonberry sauce, Finnish licorice, flag buoys, decals, Marimekko aprons, and Edna’s towels. Two new items are the tontut (elves) created using Marimekko fabrics and a new t-shirt celebrating Finland’s Centennial (1917 to 2017).
Saturdays Finnish Heritage House features its bake sale hosted by Edna Montgomery with doughnuts, fudge, cookies, baked beans and the much loved nissu / pulla (Finnish coffee bread). They say “that man doesn’t live by bread alone” and neither does Finnish Heritage House as the Tori helps support the work of this organization.
We appreciate your support.
The Tori is open Saturdays from 9 to 12 Noon mid May until early December.

2023 SUMMER RAFFLE
Once again, our good friend “Tooty” Wilson has donated a beautiful hand woven rag rug that will be raffled off this fall on Finn Funn Weekend, September.
The raffle tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00 
Tickets for the rug are on sale at Finnish Heritage House. Winner does not need to be present to win.

SUMMER 2023 EXHIBIT

The Finnish Heritage House has prepared a cookbook titled "From A Finnish Kitchen". 
It features recipes from members of our Finnish community.
The cookbook is bound and is sure to be treasured for many years.
The book makes a wonderful gift.
The Cookbook is available at the FHH Tori for $12.00. For an extra $4.95 it can be mailed it to your home.

PRIOR YEAR ACTIVITIES

“Oksat” To Perform At 2017 Finn Fling
“Oksat”, an ensemble comprised of musicians from the West Paris kantele group “Maine Kanteles”, the midcoast kantele group “Suomalaiset Jouset”, Cumberland, and South Portland, will give a concert in the Finnish Congregational Church on Saturday, September 16th at 1:00 pm. Eight kantele players are joined by bass, guitar and clarinet musicians. They will be performing for our members on Saturday, September 16th and in West Paris on Sunday, September 17th. We hope you will join us on September 16th for a potluck lunch in Jura Hall at 12:00 and this special concert in the Church at 1:00.
“Oksat” was established by Sarah Cummings in response to a request she received last Fall from friends in Kuhmo, Finland to bring a group of Maine kantele players to participate in the annual Sommelo Music Camp and give a couple of public performances during the camp (the ensemble ended up performing five times during the week). Sarah went about recruiting members and eleven folks responded to the call. The group practiced at Sarah’s home in Cumberland once a month from last November to this past June.
